North America (part 3)

New Mexico City to Colombia

July 8th, 2019
The hotel I chose to stay in for this part of my trip was the Hotel MX auropureto. This hotel had a 4.4/5 rating and included breakfast which is very convienent.

The first place I decided to go see after having breakfast was the historic centre of Mexico city. I drove my rental car there.

Here one can see many landmarks that date back to the Aztec Era. Centered around the massive Zócalo plaza, the area draws tourists to museums and iconic buildings like the Metropolitan Cathedral.
I didn't go inside the cathedral but got to see it from a distance. This is a beautiful place. Every day at 7:55 A.M. soldiers play their drum's and trumpets while setting up the Mexican flag which starts getting raised at exactly 8:00 A.M. it's so patriotic.

Steps away from the cathedral are other historical and cultural sites. as well as lots of shops and eateries all around. For lunch today I decide to have some enchiladas as they date back to Mayan times, when people in the Valley of Mexico would eat corn tortillas wrapped around meat or fish. Today they can be filled with meat, cheese, vegetables, beans, etc.
I found my enchiladas at the La Casa de las Enchiladas restaurant and they cost me around $17 as I paired them with a drink to beat the heat.

As it got darker I made my way to the Palacio de Bellas Artes. This absolutely breathtaking museum frequently holds events at night including nighttime tours, ballets, and plays.

After watching a ballet performance I went to the Cafe de Bellas Artes which has a large selection of food you can chose from such as French bread hot beef sandwiches, beef burgers an drew chips various salad options. They had Comfortable tables inside or on a balcony overlooking the Alameda, and had gentle classical music playing. This is where I had my dinner tonight. My meal here cost me USD$35.

After my day in Mexico city. I made my way back to the hotel to relax a bit and pack up my belongings as after check out I head back to the Mexico City International Airport. After returning my rental car I hop on a flight to Colombia.
